ierra Club Outings has been run by volunteers since 1901, getting people outdoors to build connections with wild places worth protecting. For their Earth Month web series, we were asked to tell the story of Carol Dienger, a volunteer who led 86 outings across three continents over 55 years, and her daughter Jenny Moon, who now carries that legacy forward as an active Outings Leader.

Our Approach
We created an animated and illustrated episode that brings Carol and Jenny's journey to life through traditional animation vignettes and motion design. The visual approach blends hand-drawn illustration with graphic motion elements, capturing the warmth and texture of outdoor experiences while keeping the pacing lively and engaging for a digital audience.
The design language draws from nature itself, with organic shapes, earthy palettes, and illustrated details like blooming wildflowers and spinning pinecones that reward close attention. The animation style is personal and intimate, matching the generational story of two women connected through a shared love of the outdoors.
The Result
The finished episode shows how animation can bring real stories to life in ways that live-action alone can't, distilling decades of outdoor adventures into a short, emotional narrative. It's a project close to our hearts as a studio that cares deeply about nonprofit storytelling and the power of animation to inspire action.
