About

I have found myself in a world of worlds...

An amnesiac explorer awakes one early morning, lost in a dense alien jungle. Pulled deeper into their journey by unseen forces, our explorer gets a glimpse into their destiny.

This project grew from Axel's love and appreciation for sci-fi & horror genre fiction from the VHS era, and a growing disconnect from the recycled archetypal narratives often found within such genre works of the time.

A large inspiration for the short is the Showa-era Godzilla films and the practical approach to cinematography, set design and effects. The approach to animation was always to use a combination of traditional techniques and some more contemporary compositing and key-framing. The goal was never to develop a stop motion film, but more to incorporate as many practical animation techniques wherever they could work. Developing physical, miniature sets shifted his process and mindset and grew his appreciation for this lineage of filmmaking techniques. Axel felt a focus on the medium and the artifacts of the medium were an important element to place the project in a context and conversation with works of the era, even as an outside object.
